Pet Portraits
This is my 15th year painting dogs and cats!! I still get excited when I see a cute photo of a dog's face and want to get right to my easel and go to work. And by WORK, I mean have FUN! There are times that I just laugh while I'm painting!
I mostly do custom commissioned portraits now, but I also try to throw in some paintings that I just HAVE to paint because they are so funny and adorable!
So my color palette is pretty wild, just like me, and I don't ever use black. It's just so dead next to my vivid colors, and that's why I don't ever paint black noses, or brown eyes either. To me, the eyes are the most expressive and vibrant part of the dog, so I use green, blue, orange.... any color that "pops" and works with the rest of the colors of the dog. I love adding a swish here and a swish there of unexpected colors in the fur of the dog, to tie it all together. I also tend to crop parts of the dog off the edge of the canvas, making the dog come more forward, and more "in your face" just like dogs themselves are! Gotta love them!
